The importance of feed testing

By Ceanna Tannas, AHT What is it? Feed is most often tested using a wet chemistry technique, but other methods are available such near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIR). Forage, grains, silage, haylage, pellets and total mixed rations can all be tested. Analyzing for moisture, protein and energy are most important to be able to formulate rations, but other substances can also be analyzed such as calcium & phosphorus as well as other vitamins and minerals.
